As previously reported in the UD Express, Roman who is a grade 12 learner at Despatch High School began writing his own scripts and comedy material at the age of 13.

However, it was only in 2018, when he first acted in a monologue at the Afrikaans Language and Cultural Association (ATKV) in Cape Town which gave him the necessary boost in confidence he needed to kick start his career in the entertainment industry.

In 2019, Roman hosted and performed at his first live stand–up comedy show.

Now, he plans to take his career to new heights by hosting his next stand–up comedy show at Despatch Daleview Rugby Field on May 8 and 9, titled ‘From Town to Township’.

In a humorous manner, Roman will share his experiences and lessons learnt while growing up in Bothasrus in Despatch which is a town and when earlier this year he moved to Reservoir Hills, Despatch which is a township.

“I was able to experience what life was like in town and in the township and I’ve learnt that life is different in these two environments,” said Roman.

“People assume that life in town is filled with sunshine and rainbows, while many people believe that the township is dangerous.”

In addition, Roman plans to speak about his experiences as a young man navigating the world which he believes many will be able to relate to and he will attempt to explain to his audience why older people like his grandmother use online dating applications such as Tinder.

“My show explains pain and difficulties through laughter. This show is to inspire and give people the best laugh of their lives,” said Roman.

His hope is that his show will make history by being the first sold out stand–up comedy show to be held at Despatch Daleview Rugby Field.

Roman said the show will be a one man show, but will have opening acts such as popular comedian Ta Fire Deli and local artists such as Sasso Vlet, Padda and Olutheren Smith.

Apart from hosting his first stand–up show at such a big venue, Roman is looking forward to filming his performance and uploading it to the online video hosting platform Vimeo which he hopes will be viewed by many all over the world.

“To host my show at such a big venue and possibly having my performance showcase on television would be a dream come true for me,” said Roman.

“People can expect laughter and lessons and I hope that after watching my show many people will be inspired to become better citizens. I want everyone in Despatch to laugh together after such a hectic year last year.”

Roman said many people have already bought tickets to see his show, but owing to social distancing protocols only a limited number of tickets were available for those who still wanted to buy tickets.

All guests are required to wear a face mask, maintain social distancing, and sanitize their hands regularly.

The show will start at 19:00 and tickets cost R50 per person.
