After a notable music career spanning over four decades, seasoned musician Sindile Tshawe has returned to his birthplace, Kariega, to give back to his community.
With a wealth of experience working alongside legends such as Mbongeni Ngema, Sibongile Khumalo, and Busi Mhlongo, Tshawe is determined to empower young musicians in the Eastern Cape.
Tshawe’s journey in music began in 1981, and he has since travelled extensively, participating in various musical productions abroad.
However, he feels a deep sense of responsibility to share his knowledge and skills with the next generation of artists in his home town.
“I’ve seen so much talent in Kariega and the Eastern Cape, and I believe it’s time to nurture and showcase it to the world,” Tshawe said. “Africa is rich in raw talent, and I want to play a role in unlocking that potential.”
Tshawe has already started training young musicians in Kariega, some of whom have secured gigs in KwaZulu-Natal and Mpumalanga. His vision is to establish a music training academy that will not only provide a platform for local talent but also attract global collaborations through an online element.
“My goal is to create a hub where young musicians can learn, grow, and connect with artists from around the world,” Tshawe explained. “I believe that by working together, we can create something truly special and showcase the beauty of African music to a global audience.”
Tshawe said he has seen how his passion for music and community development has resonated with the local youth, who are eager to learn from his expertise.
His return to Kariega has brought a renewed sense of hope and excitement, as young musicians see an opportunity to follow in his footsteps.
In addition to his community work, Tshawe is also busy working on a new album, set to be released before the end of the year.
“This album is a tribute to Africa and my community,” he said. “Each song tells a story of hope, resilience, and determination. I hope to inspire the youth never to give up on their dreams, just like I never gave up on mine.
However, I also want to encourage the older generation like me to go back to their dreams, and give them another chance, it’s never too late. Look at me, I’ve worked hard for decades, and I still feel there’s so much more to learn and achieve. There’s a whole world out there, waiting for you to tap into it,” the musician concluded.
