Wild Sunshine Media, a non-profit company working in the arts and media sector, is hosting the inaugural Kariega Book and Arts Fair on Sunday at Barkly Street Theatre.
The event will comprise book and art stalls, and refreshments will be on sale.
Several new authors and new works will be launching at the fair, one of them being Reflections in the rear-view mirror, which is a memoir by Hennie du Toit of Kariega.
Du Toit shares his memories and anecdotes of growing up in South Africa and Southwest Africa during the 1970s and 80s.
Muse is a poetry anthology by Linsey Young of Despatch.
Seisoene is a poetry anthology from the pen of Despatch teacher, Ruben Myburgh, who shares his views on love and the season of life.
Woorde sê alles / Words say it all is an Afrikaans/English poetry omnibus from the pen of retired policeman, Oswald Matthews of Despatch.
Snapshots of Life is a poetry omnibus by husband-and-wife poets, David and Adelle Gascoyne of Kariega.
They share the joy and sorrows of love and life and the lessons learned from it.
The Writer’s Toolkit is a resource for emerging writers and screenwriters.
Written by Adelle Gascoyne, who is a writer (poet, novelist) and performance writer (screenwriter, playwright), the work was funded by the National Arts Council.
Other local authors and poets who will exhibit their work include Susan Tiervlei and Branco-Lee Casper of Gqeberha, and Marlene Potgieter, Angelique Simons and Chantal Mafiet of Kariega.
The Book and Arts Fair is sponsored by the National Arts Council.
The talented local painter Vincent Olivier (who was nominated for a Lifetime Achievement Award) and his wife, Maureen (a crafter) will also exhibit their work. The couple lives in Despatch.
Wild Sunshine Media will also during the fair present its annual awards between 12:00 and 14:00.
