Excellent investigative skills by SAPS Kamesh Crime Prevention members resulted in the speedy arrest of three suspects, the recovery of a hijacked vehicle as well as the confiscation another bakkie.

It is alleged that at about 12:15 last Thursday afternoon, Kamesh crime prevention members followed up on information received about an alleged hijacked truck in the area. While driving, they spotted the truck parked in an open field in McCarthy Road.

“A silver Opel Corsa bakkie was parked in front of the truck. Three people (a female and two males) alighted from the truck, carrying a blue bag and a battery. As police members approached them, they sped off in the bakkie, in the direction of Kariega,” said SAPS spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu.

“The police members chased after the bakkie and successfully stopped them in Durban Street. The car battery and a vehicle jamming device were found.”

It was established that the truck was delivering alcohol to a shop in Stanford Road when it was hijacked by two suspects. The driver and his passenger were dropped off near the NMU Missionvale Campus. The truck was found empty and still idling in McCarthy Road.

The three suspects aged 32, 33 and 41 years were arrested and detained on charges of possession of a hijacked vehicle, possession of a jamming device and possession of suspected stolen property (battery).
