The police’s K9 unit in Kariega arrested a 30-year-old burglary suspect at a business in Kariega yesterday, April 9.
According to Captain Gerda Swart, police spokesperson, alert SAPS Uitenhage K9 members responded immediately to a complaint of a burglary in progress at 05:30 on Saturday in Durban Street.
“Members suspected that the suspect/s might still be inside the premises and with the assistance of the keyholder, entrance was gained. Newly trained K9, Razor, tested his expertise when he was released inside the premises. His senses immediately sniffed out a suspect that was hiding inside a part of the roof,” Swart said.
The 30-year-old man was arrested on the scene and detained on charges, ranging from attempted housebreaking and theft, malicious damage to property and possession of suspected stolen property.
“The suspect was found in possession of copper pipes and aircon pipes.”
The suspect is due to appear in the Kariega Magistrate’s Court on Monday, April 11 on the said charges.
