Kariega K9-unit, with the assistance of K9 Razor, managed to apprehend one suspect following a business robbery in Durban Street last night, June 12.

Police spokesperson, Capt. Gerda Swart, said that five men, two armed with firearms, allegedly entered a supermarket at approximately 19:00 and held staff members at gunpoint.

“The suspects demanded cash and took groceries, cell phones and a laptop. Meanwhile, private security officials and members from Uitenhage K9 arrived at the scene, saw the suspects and gave chase after them. Uitenhage K9 members managed to apprehend one 24-year-old male suspect with the assistance of Razor in Uys Street, Kariega,” Swart explained.

“Several stolen items were found in his possession and handed in as evidence,” she added. “The search for the other four outstanding suspects who managed to evade arrest for now, will continue today. More arrests are expected soon.”  

The suspect is due to appear in the Kariega Magistrates Court on Wednesday, June 15, 2022 on a charge of armed robbery.
