THE past pupils and teachers’ association of John Walton Secondary School primarily aims to support and enhance the realization of the school’s mission by mobilizing ex-learners, ex teachers and current staff members to contribute towards the school’s well-being.
Through the collective efforts of its members, the John Walton Alumni Association was able to present the school’s top achieving matriculants in the 2020 NSC examinations with cash prizes at the school’s recently held prefect induction ceremony.
The top three matriculants on aggregate were awarded cash prizes of R2 000, R1 500, and R1 000, respectively. The top three Multiple Exam Opportunity (MEO) matriculants were awarded a consolation prize of R250 each.
The decision to combine the prefect induction ceremony and the matric awards ceremony was mutually agreed upon by the school and the association, in an effort to motivate and inspire the matriculants of 2021 to reach for greater heights.
Despite facing numerous socio-economic challenges, the school obtained a 71.70% matric pass for 2020 thanks to the hard work, dedication and selfless sacrifice of staff and learners alike.
The school avails classrooms to learners for after-school studying, as many do not have suitable study environments at home. These sessions are supervised by staff and alumni who volunteer their time.
The school also has study classes over weekends and hosted a number of study camps last year, in preparation for trial and final examinations.
All the intervention efforts, in addition to the added incentive of receiving a cash prize, have contributed to the continued success of the once underperforming school. ISSUED: JOHN WALTON ALUMNIASSOCIATION
