TWO members of the Uitenhage Lions Club recently received the highest accolade possible from Lions Clubs International.

The Melvin Jones Fellowship was awarded to Lions Robbie Effting and Pat Clohessy. This Fellowship is named after the founder of Lions Clubs International, Melvin Jones, and is bestowed on persons who prove to provide exceptional service to Humanity. The names of recipients are displayed on a roll of honour at Lions International headquarters in Oakbrook, Illinois, USA.

The Melvin Jones Fellowship was awarded to the two Uitenhage Lions Club members by International President Jung-Yul Choi from Japan. In a letter addressed to the recipients, President Choi thanked them for their “absolute dedication and commitment to the service of others” and calls them “beacons of light in a dark world”.

The award was handed to Lions Robbie and Pat by Uitenhage Lions President Raynard McLaren.

“These two gentlemen are absolute stalwarts in the Lions Club and the communities of Uitenhage and Despatch. Their unwavering dedication to making a difference to those in need is unmatched. The recognition they receive is thoroughly deserved,” said McLaren.
