Despite trying desperately to float the Uitenhage & District SPCA boat, they once again are in dire financial straits and have no option but to appeal urgently to the public for financial assistance.
In a statement on the SPCA Facebook page, it is said that for the past three years, the SPCA has been trying to get finalization of a permanent contract with the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality, without success.
“In order for pound operation to continue we have repeatedly been awarded an ‘Informal Tender’ which has resulted in a reduced payment and set costs for services rendered, which do not take into account the huge and unavoidable escalation in fuel and commodity costs.
“Our current tender expired in December 2021, despite continual requests for the matter to be addressed with urgency.
“As a result, non payment for services rendered to date amounts to approximately R180 000, which has left us unable to pay bills and very shortly, the salaries of our hard working and dedicated staff.
“Without fuel, veterinary assistance, being able to provide for the needs of the animals on site and staff, our continued operation is under threat.”
The SPCA will be very grateful for absolutely any financial assistance. No amount is ever too small to help keep them operational during this challenging time.
