IT was a shock to many Algoa FM listeners when they heard that their ever-popular radio presenter Queenie Grootboom is not only paralysed but is suffering from a severe bedsore on her back after an operation to remove a growth from her spinal cord.
This news became known to most only when her friend Kaylin Nesemann started the Back a Buddy campaign to raise funds for Queenie to go to Aurora rehabilitation centre to receive proper treatment and to cover other urgent medical care she requires.
The reason that most people did not know about Queenie’s plight, is that she kept broadcasting from her little home studio especially created for her by the Algoa FM technical team.
Kaylin in her Back a Buddy campaign statement said, “All she wants to be able to do is walk again. The bills as we know are very large so we are reaching out to anybody and everybody who can find it in their humbling heart to assist our Queenie.”
- The Back a Buddy campaign aims to raise R120 000. At the time of going to print on Wednesday morning the donations stood close to R63 000.
