THREE learners from Daniel Pienaar Technical High School took part in the annual Eskom Science Expo in the engineering category and have all received gold medals for their projects.

Milanie Saayman designed a tamper-free alarm system, Karel Otto Marais designed a vehicle propelled by water and El’righ Meiring a circuit board that repels parasites, especially those attacking farm animals.

Karel Otto received the reward for best energy project for seniors and El’righ received a special award. He was also the category winner: Engineering.

El’righ will for the third consecutive year be a part of the Eastern Cape team that will take part at the International Science Fair in Johannesburg from 23 to 27 September. He will be joined by Karel Otto.

The EC team consists of 13 high school learners and four junior school learners.
