In the South African spirit of improving neighbourhoods ourselves, the UD Express team filled potholes in Amperbo Street, Despatch.

In filling the potholes, the UD Express supported Vistarus Mission Station which supplies the Gatvol ready-mix. It is an easy way to fill and seal a pothole as the product hardens when compacted.

Amperbo Street normally is a busy street, flanked by Despatch High School and Susannah Fourie Primary School, but thanks to the holidays, traffic was no problem, and the potholes could be filled quickly and safely.

The Better Road Gatval mix from Vistarus is an easy way to fill and seal a pothole as the product hardens when compacted. Here Debby-Lynn van Dyk shows one of the potholes prior to the UD team tackling it.

The Gatvol mix is not tar-based but consists of synthetic chemicals which harden when compacted and exposed to air. No heat is required, nor sealing, and it works in wet potholes. It costs R150 for a 25kg bucket and a refill in this bucket is R130. To support the Better Road Movement, get your Gatvol PE from Vistarus, WhatsApp 067 395 3089. Instructions by The Better Road Gatvol mix from Vistarus states that all you need to do is to find a small to medium-sized pothole and pour the ready-mix into the pothole. Fill it up to 1–2 cm higher than road level. Hit it with the back side of a spade to compact it. Drive over the whole area of the patch with both the front and back wheels of your vehicle. Safety measures: stop your vehicle behind the pothole. Put out safety cones in the front and the back.
