Rugby fans are invited to the Gardens RFC Easter Rugby Day which will be held on Saturday at theDerrick Ferreira Stadium. Seen in action is Gardens’ scrum half Marvin Kampher.

Gardens Rugby Club will host an Easter Rugby Day on Saturday, 16 April, at the Derrick Ferreira Stadium in Kariega with the kick-off of the first game at 11:00.

The participating clubs are Gardens, Kruisfontein RFC, Belhar RFC, Jeffreys Bay RFC and Despatch Oostelikes. The programme is as follows: 11:00 Belhar 1st Reserves vs Despatch Oostelikes 1st Reserves; 12:30 Gardens 1st Reserves vs Jeffreys Bay 1st Reserves; 14:00 Kruisfontein United vs Jeffreys Bay; Gardens vs Belhar.

Gardens RFC was founded in 1932 and this year celebrates its 90th anniversary. It was named after the then Uitenhage being known as the Garden Town. During the 1940s local clubs formed the Uitenhage Rugby Union and Gardens became the first winners of the Uitenhage First League. In those days exceptional play with crowd- pleasing action was from players like the Rayners brothers, Maarman

brothers, Terblanche brothers as well as Pat Ferreira and Tata van Willing.

Gardens RFC last weekend played against Adelaide Rangers in the EPRU Grand Challenge Cup and won

80-17.
