The Friendly City Comedy Crew was born of the desire to bring about some lighthearted entertainment to audiences of Nelson Mandela Bay.
The Friendly City Comedy Crew was started this year by co-founders, Nolwazi Nkwandla and Chantal Bezuidenhout, as a platform for local comedians to hone their skills.
They provide various opportunities for up-and-coming comedians, with Gqeberha’s first monthly Open Mic Comedy Night – the Last Laugh, as well as comedy workshops facilitated by experienced comedians and joke-writing feedback sessions.
10 x the Funny is a comedy show showcasing 10 of the Bay’s best local comedians, all on one stage and with it the chance for GQ Comedy Lovers to kick back, relax and have a laugh.
The show will take place at the One Room Music and Comedy Club in Westbourne Road on November 3. Besides all the talented musicians that have performed there, the One Room has recently become a vibrant comedy club where local and national comedians love to perform in its intimate space.
The 10-in-10 Comedy Show quickly came to life, with an entertaining lineup of local comedians, including the comedic talents of Jermaine Mattroos and Isaac Mehlape, both imports from Johannesburg who have chosen the Bay as their home. Eastern Cape born-and-bred funny guys, Ngcaphephe Suka, Francois Scholtz, and Ondela Damane, will join them on stage, all veterans of the local comedy scene.
In addition, GQ Comedy’s Emilio Tobias, a Comic’s Choice Awards Nominee, will also perform.
“Collectively, we’ve all been working towards fanning the fires of funny in the city,” said Bezui-denhout.
“We are extremely grateful to The One Room for providing us with this space. Contrary to the perceived notion that comedy is a whole lot of fun, it is also a whole lot of hard work, and we are always looking for opportunities to perform.”
Tickets are available via Quicket at R80 each and R100 at the door on the night. If there are any left! The One Room Music and Comedy Club is a licensed venue and a cash bar will be available.
