Jubilee Park Primary School in Gerald Smith received an unexpected and pleasant visit from one of its former learners, Sthembiso “Kolisi” Befile, nowadays an inspiring rugby player who last year landed contracts with French rugby club Voluntaris de Protecció Civil (VPC) Andorra as well as Sporting Club Appaméen.

Before moving to France, he made a few appearances for EP Kings and was an EP U/21 player. His list of rugby accolades is endless.

“Of course the humble player started his rugby career at Jubilee Park Primary back in 2010. After primary school he moved to Brandwag and his rugby skills allowed him to receive a full scholarship at Daniel Pienaar Technical High School,” said educator Wayne Terblanche from Jubilee Park Primary.

Last Friday, Befile decided to give back to his roots where it all started and accompanied by his fiancée, visited Jubilee Park to bring a much-needed donation of toiletries.

“As a school we are very grateful for the initiative of Sthembis. It is heartwarming to know that we have produced learners of his character,” said Terblanche.

Jubilee Park has a proud history of producing rugby players of excellence. The likes of Eric Sauls, former SA U/21 coach, Lionel Martin, and Ryan Brown former EP players all hail from this school.

“In the spirit of Befile, we believe in our school motto ‘Aim high and persevere’. Over the years this school has produced several learners of excellence and we are forever proud of these success stories,” said Terblanche.

According to Befile, he always had the desire to show the children from Jubilee Park that even if you come from an underprivileged background, with hard work and dedication, it is still possible to make a success of your life.

Jubilee Park Primary’s seventieth year will be celebrated during the third term. All former learners and teachers are encouraged to participate in the celebrations. To stay up to date with the planned celebrations visit the school’s Facebook page.
