SAPS Kariega confirmed that they have opened a case of murder following a shooting incident that took place in Kariega CBD this weekend.
According to SAPS spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg, preliminary reports indicate that on Friday, July 18 at approximately 13:50, the deceased was at his shop in Market Street, Kariega.
“An unknown suspect came into the shop and started shooting at the deceased and thereafter he left the shop. The deceased is a 40-year-old foreign national,” she said.
“The motive and the suspect are unknown and the investigation is ongoing. The name of the deceased will be released once the next of kin have officially identified the deceased.”
Janse Van Rensburg added that police are appealing to anyone who can assist in locating Jaquin Assam, to urgently contact SAPS Kariega on 079 302 6676 or the Crime Stop number 08600 10111 or their nearest police station. All information is confidential, and callers may remain anonymous.
