Five people were killed on impact and three others seriously injured in an apparent head-on collision between two bakkies on the R75 towards Jansenville on Friday, May 26.
According to police information, a white Isuzu-bakkie with a canopy and a Hyundai H100 were found on the side of the road approximately 1km from the R336/R75 T-junction towards Glenconnor around 17:00.
Police spokesperson, Col. Priscilla Naidu, said that five people died on the scene whilst two women and a man were transported to Provincial Hospital in Kariega.
“At this stage it is unclear how the accident occurred. The Isuzu-bakkie was travelling towards Jansenville loaded with stock and the Hyundai-bakkie was travelling towards Kariega,” she said.
“Three people from the Isuzu-bakkie, two men and a woman and two from the Hyundai, a man and a woman, died. The next-of-kin of the deceased are still being traced and names will be released once a formal identification is done,” she added.
