TWIN brothers Khanyo Phillip and Siba Phillip, both personal fitness trainers, are conducting live sessions and advice online, to encourage people to stay fit during the lockdown.

Khanyo and Siba, who hail from Fairbridge Heights in Uitenhage, both started their journey to fitness when they were 10 years old.

The Phillip brothers have always been active and participated in athletics, rugby, cross country and swimming.

Siba, a third year Bachelor of Arts student at Nelson Mandela University, during 2018 established PhillipFitness and offers personal training at Thee Gym in Uitenhage, Armour Fitness in Despatch as well as at the NMU Indoor Sport Centre in Port Elizabeth.

“Within the first year I had at least 200 clients in Despatch and Uitenhage. I was able to accomplish such a feat because I had the goal to make sure that the brand establishes a remarkable reputation,” said Siba.

He also provides fitness and health tips on Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp.

Since the start of the nationwide lockdown, Siba has sent training programmes directly to his clients to help them tackle their fitness goals each day. His website www.phillipfitness.co.za provides online services such as purchasing specialized workout and diet programmes to pre-booking trainers.

Khanyo started as a fitness and health professional in 2017 and originally offered field sessions to clients. In the same year, he established KP Personal Training and now offers group sessions as well as one-on-one personal training at Virgin Active, Greenacres in the Bay. He also founded the active clothing brand, Visionary Gym Wear which can be purchased on the @visionarygymwear Instagram account.

“As a personal trainer you ultimately want to take it one day at a time with all clients, keeping track, monitoring their progress efficiently, ensuring they are eating correctly and most importantly gaining their trust,” said Khanyo.

He believes that one should not only tell one’s clients how to perform an exercise, but also why they should do it and how it should be done properly. In a bid to connect with his clients and to those who are interested in getting fit during the nationwide lockdown period, Khanyo started live online training sessions on his Instagram account every Friday to encourage them to stay motivated, to keep fit and healthy during the lockdown period.

“A lot of people lack self-motivation to continue, therefore I recommend they join my live workout sessions. My online training has gained decent support from existing clients as well as new clients. I also try my best to check on my clients on a daily and weekly basis,” said Khanyo.

He hopes to continue building his professional reputation as one of the best personal trainers in the area.
