IN encouraging people to opt for a healthy lifestyle, a first of its kind Health & Fitness Outdoor Day will be held in Rosedale on Saturday.
Organised by Nicky Human, former multiple South African body fitness champion and international contestant and personal trainer, the outdoor event will include the attendance of various health related institutions and sport clubs, joining in the efforts of promoting fitness, health care and living a healthy life.
“Being in the health and fitness industry for the past nine years, I’ve noticed that there is a huge lack of knowledge when it comes to living a healthy lifestyle. There is no instant cure or quick fix when it comes to your health. It does not last. The answer lies in lifestyle changes,” said Nicky.
The fitness section of the day includes a warm-up and aerobics session by Crystal Christoffels, whilst Nicky will present an obstacle course and boot camp session. There will also be one-minute fitness tests, free of charge, for the public to participate in. Fusion Martial Arts will present a basic self-defence demonstration for adults as well as for children.
The health section will include healthy food tasting by dietician Melanie Zeeman at a healthy food station whilst biokineticist Damian Zealand will inform visitors on how to compile an exercising programme, how to deal with injury prevention and rehabilitation as well as lifestyle changes.
In attendance will be the Rosedale Mobile Clinic and the services they offer free of charge include blood pressure and glucose tests, TB screenings, HIV tests as well as breast examinations. As November is regarded as Diabetes Awareness Month, clinic sisters will inform the public about this disease that occurs when your blood glucose (blood sugar) is too high. Netcare Cuyler Hospital’s renal unit will be present and responsible for kidney screenings.
LoveLife Centre is part of the day’s activities and will keep the children entertained with fun like face painting and games with the aim to promote health and fitness from a young age.
Various other health stalls will be at the event as well. All local businesses involved in the health or fitness industry, are welcome to leave their brochures at the Health & Fitness Day information table for distribution.
“To live a healthy life should be a joy every day, not something that you are not looking forward to. Therefore, this day is to inform and demonstrate to the public on how they can change their lives for the better.
“It sometimes is as simple as just to choose. You cannot have potatoes and rice. Choose one,” said Nicky.
- It will be held at the sports grounds of CW Hendrickse Primary School on Saturday, November 2nd from 08:00 onwards. The entrance fee is R30 per adult and R15 for children under the age of 12 years. For more information contact Nicky Human on 078 373 1605.
