The elderly man and his son that were shot during a house
robbery in Kirkwood yesterday, March 26, allegedly by suspects posing as police
officers, have died.
Police spokesperson, Col. Priscilla Naidu, has confirmed
that both father and son have died due to the extent of their injuries at a
Gqeberha hospital today, March 27.

earlier today about the 71-year-old man and his 11-year old son that were injured
in the robbery that took place during the early hours of yesterday morning.
They have been identified as Ben Plaatjies and his son, Ken
Plaatjies.
Police are now investigating double murder cases and one of
house robbery.
According to a preliminary report, it is alleged that the
family was asleep at their home in Madikeni Township in Dunbrody when at about
02:45, the father heard a knock on the door. He opened the door after he was
informed by a person outside that they were police officials. He was confronted
by four males and a female who pointed a gun at him. He was handcuffed and
it is unknown at this stage what was taken from the house.
Naidu said that the father sustained a gunshot wound to his abdomen.
“Detectives are still probing the circumstances
relating to 11-year-old’s shooting. He also sustained a gunshot wound to his
abdomen.”
The suspects fled in a white VW Polo that was found at a
house in KwaDwesi by K9 members yesterday morning. “It has been
confiscated for further investigation. It is further alleged that the suspects
were wearing police uniforms,” Naidu added.
