RUNNERS can look forward to Despatch Athletics Club’s first, last and only 10km road race of 2020, which will be held on November 28.
Helgard Potgieter, chairperson of the Despatch Athletics Club said owing to COVID-19 lockdown regulations, the club was not allowed to host any of their regular events until now.
“Luckily the easing in the lockdown regulations allowed us now to organise our annual road race. Unfortunately there will be no fun run and no late entries will be accepted for the 10km race. This is all in adhering to the COVID-19 protocol,” said Potgieter.
“This will be the ninth consecutive year that we offer runners the opportunity to participate in this fast and flat race. It also is the ninth year that Paul Barnes from Despatch SuperSpar will be the main sponsor of the event.”
The 10km road race starts at 07:00 in Dr Rabie Street next to Despatch SuperSpar and social distancing should be practised at all times.
All finishers will received medals and there will be no prizegiving. Prize money will be paid via EFT to the respective winners.
Online entries can be done at www.webtickets.co.za and close on Monday, November 23.
Numbers must be collected from the Eastern Province Athletics office at the Westbourne Oval in PE on Thursday, November 26 before 14:00.
There will be no numbers available for collection on the morning of the 10km road race.
