Police are investigating a case of house robbery, two counts
of attempted murder, and an inquest after at least five armed men allegedly
stormed into a smallholding and attacked a family outside Kirkwood this
morning, March 3.

According to police spokesperson, Sergeant Majola Nkohli, it
is alleged that this morning at about 02:30, the suspects – one armed with a
firearm and others with knives – entered the smallholding that is situated
outside Kirkwood and attacked a homeowner and his family.

“During a scuffle with the owner, one suspect was fatally
shot, and another was injured,” said Nkohli.

He said the other suspects fled in a silver Toyota
Avanza.

“A short while later police speedily responded and managed
to arrest three suspects and also confiscated the Avanza on route R75 near
Kariega area in Kirkwood,” said Nkohli.

“The victims and the injured suspect were treated for
injuries.”

Nkohli said SAPS specialised units and the Airwing are
assisting ground forces to track and trace the remaining suspect or
suspects.

He added that the three suspects, aged between 23 and 50, are
expected to appear in the Kirkwood Magistrate’s Court on Friday, March 5 on
various charges, ncluding attempted murder and house robbery.
