DEVON Valentine, one of the Eastern Province’s members of the South African Golf Development Board (SAGDB) programme, was invited to play in the Class A category of the Ciputra Golfpreneur World Junior Championship.
He will be joined by Zinan Maimane in the Class B category, at this prestige tournament which will be played in Jakarta, Indonesia on 26 May 2023.
Devon also achieved 3rd position, with scores of 69, 71, 71; in the Nomads SA Juniors International played at Rondebosch Golf Club on 7 March.
Four players from the SAGDB’s Eastern Province development programme were also invited to attend a SAGDB National Training Camp that was held from 17-21 March at the National Junior Development Centre which is based at Leopard Creek. These players were Johndré Ludick, Devon Valentine, Othimna Matiwana and Olothando Ndabeni.
“Without the SAGDB, underprivileged players would never have had opportunities to travel and play at these top of the range golf courses,” said Frans de Kock, manager of the SAGDB EP development programme.
“Golf is such a difficult game and when talented players like Devon and Johndré come along it surely is a blessing. Our players will forever be indebted to the SAGDB for creating opportunities and opening up new doors to make this all possible,” said De Kock.
