The Elliott Memorial Congregational Church in Kariega is gearing up for its fund-raising concert to be held at the Babs Madlakane Community Hall, KwaNobuhle. The main act for the evening, Betusile Mcinga, is a popular award-winning South African Gospel singer, philanthropist, songwriter, worship minister, vocalist and director.

Nosipho Phillip, a representative from the church, said the church is grateful that this concert is finally going to happen after so many years.

“We have been planning this since 2022, and now it’s actually happening. We are so excited. We’re doing it to raise funds, but also to develop the spiritual life of our community. We have been running open online auditions for talented artists in the area to send in their videos – we will select a total of four upcoming locals to share the stage with Betusile Mcinga. By doing this, we want to expose them and their talent, so they continue chasing their dreams – you never know how someone’s career will take off, and if we can be part of that, we would be incredibly blessed,” she said.

Mcinga could not help but express his excitement for the concert, “When the church invited me to perform, and explained what the plan was, I was so excited for the people of Kariega, because this event is organised to serve them,” the gospel sensation said.

“The fact that the event will have local artists and DJs shows just how diverse it is, promoting inclusivity and just catering to everyone. We were all created by the same God, and the church is open for everyone. I can safely say this is a soul-saving event,” he added.

In terms of his own performance, Mcinga said he cannot wait to deliver his best, as he always intends for each performance. “The aim is to praise and worship God, because I believe worship has the power to break all the chains that are holding God’s people back. I also like the fact that this is a family event, meaning bonds within families will be strengthened, which means that unity will bleed into the community. Nothing beats the unity within the family structure, and it is my passion,” Mcinga concluded.

Phillip, who has a musical gift herself, encourages people in Kariega and surrounding areas to purchase tickets for the event, to enjoy with their families, support local talent, and take part in a spiritual revival.

“I’m also a singer, but exposure was not as easy as it is now. In my days, I could not pursue my singing career, that is why I try as much as I can to help others to pursue theirs. It brings me joy,” she concluded.

The Family Night Concert will take place on Saturday, April 13, and tickets cost R150. Tickets are available for purchase at Shoprite, Checkers and Computicket.
