Drug, firearm suspect arrested during Kariega police raid


KARIEGA – SAPS Nelson Mandela Bay District Crime Combating Unit arrested a 33 year old man on 23 August at about 15:30 in Kariega.

According to SAPS spokesperson Captain Andre Beetge, this follows after the unit members were following up on information that drugs are sold at a house in Stow Road, Central, Kariega.

“On their arrival the suspect attempted to hide his contraband, but after the members made a speedy entrance through the roof, a search was conducted of the premises,” he said.

“A total of 45 dagga plants, a black bag containing 27.2 grams of dagga and an unlicensed .22 caliber pistol with 9 rounds of ammunition were found and confiscated.”

Beetge added that the 33-year-old suspect was arrested and charged for the illegal possession of drugs, as well as the illegal possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

He concluded that he will be appearing before the Kariega Magistrates Court today, 25 August to face those charges.
