THE world’s current leading 400m hurdles athlete hails from Daniel Pienaar Technical High School in Uitenhage.

Wernich van Rensburg, a Grade 11 learner, currently has the world-leading time in the 400m Hurdles for boys U/18.
Wernich took the world lead last Saturday in Port Elizabeth with a time of 52.89s in rainy conditions.
He is currently leading the world rankings, with an athlete from Qatar with the next best time of 53.28s.
According to the APE scoring tables, Wernich has been one of the Top 5 overall performances at each of the last three league meetings. He has qualified to participate in the Athletics South Africa championship which will be held next week in Paarl.
