A 52-year-old woman has been kidnapped today, 14 November, during a business robbery at a local butchery called Grootboom Slaghuis in Despatch.
According to police spokesperson, Captain Andre Beetge, the incident happened at about 08:50.
Social media reports from Atlas Security, who responded to the incident, revealed that eight suspects armed with firearms entered the shop, demanding the owner. The response team confirmed that staff members were instructed to lie on the floor while one was struck over the head with a firearm.
“The suspects took R900 from the cashier before dragging her into a white Toyota Quantum and fleeing in an unknown direction. SAPS arrived on the scene shortly after the incident,” said the social media report.
Beetge said no ransom demand has been received at this stage. “SAPS appeals to the public for any information related to this incident,” he urged.
“Any person with information that could assist in this investigation can contact the Provincial Organised Crime Investigation investigator, Sergeant Classen at 072 731 9120,” he added.
