Despatch detectives are appealing to the community for their assistance in the investigation of three separate murder cases committed over the last month.

It is alleged that on Sunday, April 3, 2022 at about 08:17, the body of Xolani Mwezeni (32) was found by a community member lying close to a shop in Bayland, Despatch. The deceased sustained multiple head injuries. A case of murder was opened.        

In a second unrelated murder case, it is alleged that on Sunday, April 24, 2022 at about 23:30, Emit Hastie (50) was walking in Mikro Street, Despatch. when he was approached by a group of unknown men who robbed and stabbed him multiple times. The victim was admitted to a local hospital where he died. Prior to the incident, it is further alleged that Hastie had won some money on a slot machine at a bar in Despatch.

On Sunday, May 22, 2022 at about 00:30, Mthuthuzeli Mhlawuli (50) was asleep at his home in Gufinqando Street, Despatch, when an unknown male entered the house and shot the him several times in the head. The victim passed away on the scene and a case of murder was opened. 

Police spokesperson, Capt. Gerda Swart, said that no arrests were made in any of the above murders.

“Police are urgently appealing to anyone who can assist with any information about these cases to contact the investigating officer, Detective Sergeant Christine Jonck on 082 949 7154/041 933 8000 or SAPS Crime Stop on 08600 10111,” Swart said.
