THE annual Derby Day is set to return to Gamble Street Secondary School on July 27, promising a spectacular event as part of the school’s 40th-anniversary celebrations.

The day will see four schools – John Walton Secondary School, Uitenhage High School, McCarthy Comprehensive School, and Gamble Street Secondary School – go head-to-head in rugby, soccer, and netball matches.

This year’s event will also feature a cheerleading competition between the four schools, adding an extra layer of excitement to the already highly anticipated day.

Uitenhage High is currently the reigning champion in rugby and netball, while Gamble Street holds the soccer trophy, making for an intense rivalry.

Gamble Street Secondary’s Sports Coordinator and Soccer Coach, Vernon Forbes said, “The event has a rich history of fostering both rivalry and friendship, and this year’s iteration promises to be just as thrilling. The action will take place at the Derrick Ferreira Stadium, where the community can enjoy competitive sport, fun, and entertainment.”

Stalls will be available for rent at R280, and those interested should contact the school directly on 041 991 0757.

Medical assistance and security will be on site, and no alcohol will be permitted on the premises.

Gates will open at 08:00 and close at 17:00.
