TRADITIONALLY a 40th wedding anniversary is symbolised by a ruby and therefore the Port Elizabeth Dance Festival is delighted to celebrate 40 years with Eastern Cape dancers and studios with a sparkly Ruby Festival to run from 23 to 28 August 2021.

PEDF, like a good marriage, has had a committed relationship with Dance in the Eastern Cape for 40 years. Appropriately then, ruby was chosen as the theme for PEDF 2021.

This year every participating dancer will receive a special PEDF 40 year commemorative medal. This medal is bound to be a sought-after keepsake for all, especially those dancers (and parents) who have grown up as regular participants in the PE Dance Festival with its proud reputation as one of South Africa’s finest dance festivals.

Dancers this year could hardly wish for a more experienced adjudicator to assess their dancing than Brigitte Reeve Taylor, a freelance dance choreographer, Horton Technique Trainer at UCT, local and international AIDT Examiner, IDO International Judge, Founder of the popular Dancers love Dogs and Mass Event Choreographer.

All the traditional much-loved trophies and awards will be up for grabs as usual, as well as a few extra very special awards for 2021.

The Festival will culminate in a Ruby gala celebration which will feature the performance highlights of the Festival as well as the Awards Presentation. Please note that Covid protocols will be observed throughout the lead-up to, and during the festival, and plans adjusted accordingly.

Dance teachers from all dance studios in the Eastern Cape are invited to register their students for the Festival by emailing PEDF secretary, Carol-Anne Cash, pedancefestival@gmail.com , or contact her on 084 502 3300, before 25 June 2021.
