The KFC Mini-Cricket Season continues as over 920 kids got active at the Eastern Province KFC Mini-Cricket Provincial Festival at Muir College last weekend. Every team got to play at least two games of cricket and take part in the KFC Mini-Cricket action zone, watched and coached by Warriors players Eddie Moore and Jade de Klerk.

“I came from the system starting my cricket playing Mini-Cricket. My first memory of cricket was when I played Mini-Cricket and fell in love with the game. I really enjoyed the day and who knows some of the kids that I helped coach will go on to be stars of the future,” Said Eddie Moore.

“It was a privilege to come to Uitenhage and share our knowledge and help the kids improve their skills. The atmosphere was awesome and the kids had a lot of fun. I remember playing at St Georges Park and it was so exciting and it got me to believe that I could pursue a cricket career,” said Jade de Klerk.

The over 920 kids in action at Muir College are only a small sample of the 124 000 kids from 6495 schools that take part in 43 732 KFC Mini-Cricket matches around the country every year.

KFC, Eastern Province Cricket and Cricket South Africa are trying to spread the game all over the country and this was the first time that a Provincial Festival was hosted in Uitenhage.

“It was great to see that the community came out in huge numbers to support the kids. It is important to spread the Provincial Festival experience around the province because it helps us grow the numbers of schools and of kids playing the sport and it helps grow the feeling of inclusiveness in the programme,” commented Gugu Ndulama KFC Mini-Cricket Coordinator for Eastern Province.

The KFC Mini-Cricket programme is the largest of its kind in the country. It is an example of a way to introduce sport to young kids, in any sporting code. – REPORTER
