South Africans are invited on Saturday to walk 5km or 6 500 steps in support of people affected by cancer. A total of 150 employees from Lumotech in Kariega and their friends will participate in this challenge.
It is part of the 24th edition of the Algoa Big Walk for Cancer hosted in conjunction with the Eastern Cape Department of Health.
Maureen Pullen, a Lumotech employee and organiser of the local event said they are over the moon as the company has agreed again to fund employees to participate in the event.
“We are excited and invite the public to join us, dressed in pink, in solidarity with cancer survivors and their loved ones,” said Maureen.
The virtual Algoa FM Big Walk for Cancer’s support event in Kariega will start and finish at the Uitenhage Cricket Club (opposite the Uitenhage Indoor Sports Centre).
Participants need to be there at 07:00 for the start at 08:00.
A 5km route will be followed through the neighbourhood with the support of local traffic authorities. Lucky draws will be held at the finish point. Wors rolls and something cold will be sold at the finish.
Maureen wishes to thank Lumotech for agreeing to support the walk, as well as sponsors Deysel Design, Powerline, Dajee’s, Haslop & Mason, Levyvale SuperSpar, Tectra Automation and Re-Solve Consulting.
