Staff from College Hill Preparatory School recently played huge roles in national sporting events in early December. Noteworthy figures include Deputy Principal, Bradley Holtzhausen and educator, Sindile Bungane, each of whom brought years of expertise and commitment to their new responsibilities within Eastern Cape Province’s cricket management.
Holtzhausen assumed the role of manager for the Eastern Province u/13 cricket team at the Coastal Cup, that took place from December 4 to 8 at Woodridge. His extensive background in cricket, from being part of the Eastern Province Youth Cricket Board (EPYCB) as a zone representative from 2013 to 2018, to his current role as EPYCB secretary, highlights his dedication. Holtzhausen’s involvement in cricket management since 2015, beginning with the u/11A team, solidifies his expertise in nurturing young cricket talent.
In parallel, Bungane, who has been associated with team management since 2021, took on the role of head coach for the u/11 Regional Tournament held in Johannesburg from November 30 to December 3. His dual capabilities as a top-level umpire and coach, position him as a valuable asset to the team and the sport’s development on a broader scale.
He added that College Hill Preparatory School is steadfast in its commitment to supporting staff like him and Bungane in pursuing opportunities at both the provincial and national levels. “The school’s approach encourages educators to engage with sports unions, thereby enhancing their skills and contributing positively to student development.”
Additionally, Sameshia Esau, another celebrated staff member, was selected as a selector for the South Africa netball squad. Her involvement at this scale is expected to significantly support the school’s netball programme by exposing coaches and players to the skills required for provincial team selection. Esau’s expertise is anticipated to enrich the training and capability levels within College Hill’s netball teams, aligning with the school’s overarching objectives of excellence.
The dual achievements of Holtzhausen and Bungane not only enhance College Hill’s stature in the academic arena but also in sports. The school’s philosophy is to cultivate well-rounded students who can diverge from digital distractions and engage in physical activities, playing its part in crafting the best learners in the region.
Reflecting on their appointments, both Holtzhausen and Bungane expressed gratitude and a sense of destiny, having evolved into their roles over years of dedication and passion for sports. This year, Holtzhausen said his u/9A rugby team had a phenomenal season, further showcasing the impact of committed coaching on student performance and engagement.
As College Hill Preparatory School continues to produce leaders both in the classroom and on the sports field, the contributions of Holtzhausen, Bungane, and Esau illustrate the dynamic potential of sports in shaping young lives. “Through such endeavours, the school remains committed to its vision of becoming the pinnacle of educational and sporting excellence in the Kareiga region,” the deputy principal concluded.
