IN a first ever for the SPCA Uitenhage & District – which serves the entire Nelson Mandela Metropole and beyond – they will operate a charity shop as part of their fundraising efforts.

“The SPCA Uitenhage & District is continuously financially challenged, and we are forced to become innovative and find ways to earn additional income,” said Deirdré Swift, chairperson of the SPCA Uitenhage & District.

“This shop actually is an extension of our Jumble Sale which operates twice monthly. But instead of having a fundraiser only eight hours a month, we now can for six days or 24 hours a week, try to boost our financial situation.”

The charity shop offers a variety of jumble, new as well as used items in good condition, for sale. These include clothing (kiddies to adults), books, cutlery, crockery, books, toys, household items and various other items.

“Visitors will definitely get a lot for their money; prices are super low,” said Swift.

Owing to the COVID-19 pandemic and the social and economic impact it has on households, domestic animals often are the first to suffer. Thus, the SPCA Uitenhage & District experiences an increase in the intake of domestic animals in need, which put further strain on the association’s financial resources. The SPCA relies on financial donations.

Thank you for continued support

“We are very grateful to Olivia Davids of Wedding Bells who responded to our appeal when we were looking for a shop, and thereby enabling us to open our charity shop,” said Swift.

“We also wish to thank all who are so generously donating items which we offer for sale at our charity shop.”

The SPCA Uitenhage Charity Shop is situated at 19 Rich Street inside The Wedding Bells bridal shop and its operating hours are Monday to Friday from 10:00 – 14:00; Saturdays 09:00 – 13:00.

Kim Bennetti and Terry Hattingh offered to run the SPCA Charity Shop as volunteers. Angie Buuk and Gaby Tross will continue to handle the Jumble Sale twice monthly on Sunday mornings at the SPCA kennels.
