THE Buco Challenge, a prodigious rugby event between Uitenhage High School and John Walton as well as a march against gangsterism, last Saturday made a community stand up with gusto.

It was clear from the weather predictions that favourable conditions would not prevail. This together with the threat of spikes in gang related activity in the area presented strong adversity to overcoming the challenges of the day.

But, the community steeped in adversity, flexed their muscle and made a choice to stand against the tidal wave of criminal activity.

Four rugby matches took place between these prolific schools with Mama Walton walking away with top honours on the day. As promised, the game between the two first teams were drenched in spirit, grit and determination. Uitenhage High School would like to congratulate John Walton on winning the tournament and thank them for presenting truly worthy opposition on the day.

Uitenhage High School managed to warm the hearts of those who supported our Classroom Building Project by giving away R55 000 to some lucky winners.

Furthermore, both schools were overjoyed to pay tribute to some of their respective rugby legends in a truly dignified way.

Those who were able to continue to enjoy the festivities of the day in the VIP tent, were entertained by the likes of Patrick ‘Tururu’ Lindoor and danced the night away to some truly epic performances.

The school would like to say a very special thank you to the main sponsor of the day, Buco, as well as NMB Municipality, Dusty Satellite & TV Services, A Soon Shiong, A&R Geospatial and Cuyler Butchery and all other service providers.

A heartfelt thank you must also be extended to the organising committee, staff and stakeholders of Uitenhage High School who worked tirelessly to ensure the success of the day.

Finally, Uitenhage High School would like to thank the Uitenhage community who supported them in this endeavour.

Through difficult circumstances we enjoyed the support of those who matter most. You, our beloved community.
