After what can only be described as a difficult and life changing two years during the pandemic, a group of comedians are literally packing up from Cape Town and bringing their live stand-up comedy show LaughterOnLockdownSA with real stand-up comedians to Kariega.
LaughterOnLockdownSA is the brainchild of an old Muirite and former resident of Kariega, Mario Campbell, who is now a stand-up comedian in Cape Town.
“LaughterOnLockdownSA is an Instagram channel and online platform which went live for the very first time on 27 March 2020, the very first day of the national lockdown level five, to create a space and place for comedians and everyone else on lockdown to share their experience of what was then unprecedented to any of us,” said Campbell.
“Various comedians and social media personalities would go live for an hour sharing stories and some laughs on lockdown while being able to chat to them in the comments. This made the channel a very interactive experience and now has a following of well over 3 500 and growing daily.”
It has since had local comedians such as Alfred Adriaan and Riaad Moosa, as well international acts such as Luenell and Rodney Perry grace the platform and share their lockdown stories.
Campbell who began stand-up comedy in 2019 has quickly risen the ranks and last year opened sold out shows for the very well-known Alfred Adriaan.
