The Sundays River Valley Municipality’s Roads and Stormwater teams in Nqweba (formally Kirkwood) have recently started a project to fill potholes as well as clear stormwater drains in the area, in their efforts to improve service delivery.

At a public participation programme held on Monday, April 14, at Moses Mabhida Multi-Purpose Centre in Nqweba, Sundays River Valley Municipality (SRVM) Mayor Solethu Lucas said that the municipality currently does not have a suitable budget for the number of people living in the SRVM.

‘The population of the area recorded by Stats SA was 60 000 between April and September 2024. However, in 6 months, the population grew by approximately 25 000, but the SRVM is determined to improve service delivery in the area.’

This was stated in the presence of the Minister of the Department of Water and Sanitation, Pemmy Majodina.
