DANIEL Pienaar Technical High School’s first cricket team was victorious against Despatch High School and Muir College on October 18 and October 19.

In the T20 match against Despatch High School on Friday, Daniel Pienaar scored 156/6 in the allotted 20 overs while Despatch scored 92 runs all out.

DP player Riandre van As scored 38 off 24 balls and Cameron Williams scored 72 off 54 balls and then went on to take five wickets for 17 runs in four overs.

Daniel Pienaar won by 64 runs.

The boys had to face another prominent cricketing school on Saturday when they played against Muir College. Muir elected to bat first in the 50 over match.

They scored 91 runs all out.

Hanif Mohamed, Cameron Williams and Dante Darries did a good job with the ball with figures such as 3/10, 3/34 and 2/27 respectively.

Daniel Pienaar had a shaky start when Muir’s fast bowler took three quick wickets.

However, UB Timol who provided 39 not out and Alex Randall who provided 29 not out steadied the innings and helped Daniel Pienaar to a seven-wicket victory.

This was also the last match for grade 12 learner Azaad Fredericks, who coincidentally played his 50th match on Friday.

Another grade 12 learner, Zaahidah Sirkhotte, who has kept score for the first team since grade 8 also had to bid the team goodbye on Saturday.

Both learners will now be preparing for their final matric examinations.
