TWICE as many used cars are bought annually in South Africa than new ones.
This is according to Nunben Dixon, head of Gumtree Auto, who also said the third annual Gumtree Pre-Owned Auto Awards have helped identify the best of the best through a panel of expert judges as well as close to 70 000 votes from South Africans.
The categories ranged from a Budget City Car to Large Luxury SUVs. The panel of judges selected these 2017 vehicles based on factors such as interior quality, standard features, durability, performance, fuel and maintenance economy and of course resale value.
A total of 20 automobile brands were nominated across 12 categories and while there were some clear stand outs from both judges and SA voters – it’s safe to say that everyone was a winner in the end.
The night’s biggest winner was VW for a second year in a row with eight wins out of 16 nominations across both the judges and peoples choice awards.
With 80% of the car buying process happening online, Gumtree is honoured to have so many South Africans trusting them with their decisions.
