THE Redhouse Rowing Club was established in Nelson Mandela Bay in 2017 to accommodate all interested rowers who cannot join “restricted membership” clubs and especially youngsters from historically disadvantaged backgrounds.

Rowers of the club practise on the Swartkops River at Redhouse, the tiny 145-year-old suburb on Nelson Mandela Bay.

The club also has active rowers in the seniors and masters divisions.

RRC members have attended various regatta’s and achieved the following results:

Grey Regatta on the 21st September 2019:

. 1st in Womens Open Quadruple Scull (Phillipa Robinson, Amore Rheeder, Chare Bouwer, Zukhanya Ndambani & Linsey Young).

. 1st in Womens Open Single Scull (Phillipa Robinson).

. 1st in Womens U/19 Double Scull (Amore Rheeder & Linsey Young).

. 1st in Womens U/19B Sing Scull (Linsey Young).

. 1st in U/16 Single Scull (Charne Bouwer).

. 1st in U/16 Double Scull (Zukhanya Ndambani & Charne Bouwer).

. 1st in U/15 Single Scull (Zukhanya Ndambani).

. 1st in Mens Open B Single Scull (Jade Alberts).

. 2nd in Mens Open Double Scull (Jade Alberts & Alakhe Jacobs).

. 2nd in U/16 Single Scull (Alakhe Jacobs).

Three of RRC’s rowers namely Jade Alberts, Alakhe Jacobs and Charne Bouwer, recently went to Johannesburg to attend a High Performance Camp. At this event both Jade Alberts and Alakhe Jacobs were selected to row in the SA Junior Clubs crew for Schools Boat Race on December 6th & 7th.

Rowers also attended Settlers Sprints in Port Alfred where the crews did really well.

Congratulations to Alakhe Jacobs for receiving a special sports award at his school, Urban Academy, as well as to Zukhanya Ndambanbi for receiving a certificate from Strelitzia High School for her rowing achievements.
