WHAT started out many years ago as only a crèche in Port Elizabeth has since expanded to include a high school and four primary schools, including the one set to open its doors in Uitenhage next year.

According to the owner, Marysia Potgieter, Bonzai School started with Grade 1 learners in 2010 in a house in Sydenham, before moving to a building in North End.

When this building became too small, however, they moved to another, again in Sydenham, in 2012 and they’ve never looked back.

“There are many learners from Uitenhage that come to the school in Sydenham.

“That is why we decided to open a branch there (Uitenhage) as well, because the demand was so great,” she said.

“When I first put up the ad for the school on Facebook, we got a staggering response. It was then that I realised how big the demand was,” Marysia added.

“The signs are already up at the school. They started getting the building ready last month.”

The new school, with its 17 classrooms, can accommodate about 500 learners.

“Our vision is to get children off the street and into a school,” Marysia said.

Bonzai School in Uitenhage is located at 24-30 Mosel Road, opposite Brandwag High School. It is open to English and Afrikaans children from the age of 2, up to Grade 7.

The office will be open from January 6 between 07:30 and 14:00. Registration for 2020 is now open.

Their other branches are located at:

. Bonzai School for Grades 1 to 7 at 3 Somers Road, Sydenham

. Bonzai School (high school) for Grades 8 to 12 at 5 Downing Street, North End

. Bonzai Primary and Pre-Primary at 1 Yokohama Street, Kabega Park
