SHARING in the spirit of the season of giving and caring, learners and teachers from Solid Foundation Academy in Uitenhage have filled special gift boxes for children at Lukhanyiso Orphanage Home in KwaNobuhle.
The project is the initiative of educator Heather Bhana, the Grade 6B class teacher in conjunction with another educator, Ada Rhoda, class teacher of the Grade 6As.
“The idea to do this was sparked last year, whilst listening to a learner presenting her oral. She talked about her life as an orphan,” said Bhana.
“It touched my heart. There and then I decided to collect items for special gift boxes to give to orphans.”
Children at an orphanage in Coffee Bay last year benefited from the project and this year the project was implemented closer to home, to the benefit of orphans at Lukhanyiso.
Each special gift box consists of a variety of toiletries, a towel, sweater, scarf, soft toy, cool drink and sweets.
Bhana thanked all who contributed to the special gift boxes, which definitely will make each recipient feel very special. This former school principal, who retired and now assists at Solid Foundation Academy, said she plans to continue with this Christmas project for as long as she will be involved at the school.
