RACE organisers are hoping that one of the local top athletes could be taking home the rich prize money to be won in the forthcoming 1 City Marathon taking place from Altona Primary School on Saturday.
A generous prize purse of R225 000 stands to be won by top athletes.
Well-known local coach, Mike Mbambani, said,, “Our local athletes are ready for this challenge. Luyanda Tshangana of New Brighton is a strong contender for an excellent finish time.”
Road running queen, Ntombesintu Mfunzi, will be competing in the marathon and said, “I am looking forward to measuring my fitness levels at the 1 City Marathon as part of my Two Oceans training programme.”
Tabitha Tsata of Zimbabwe was the first woman home in last year’s marathon in a time of 2:57:37.
- Entry fee for the marathon is R150, 10km (R60). Registration will take place at the EPA office, Westbourne Oval from 13:00 to 19:00 tomorrow and from 06:00 on the morning of the race. For more information contact Michael Mbambani on 079 149 6796.
