A THIRD year IIE Bachelor of Education in Foundation Phase Teaching student, from The IIE’s Varsity College Port Elizabeth, recently donated 1 000 sanitary pads, which were distributed in the Uitenhage and Despatch areas, as well as in Walmer Township and to the Bet Sheekoom Safe Haven.
Lizaan Vos, who is the current Miss Grand Supreme 2019 and Miss Radiant SA brand ambassador, started the sanitary drive initiative in March this year.
She is also a passionate photographer and owns Lizaan Vos Photography.
Vos raffled photoshoots as prizes to assist with the purchasing of the sanitary pads.
Spar, however, also came on board and assisted greatly.
“Spar donated the 1 000 sanitary pads, which allowed me the opportunity to use the money raised from the raffles to address another need, which involved assisting 10 families with food parcels during national lockdown,” she said.
“The sanitary drive initiative was mainly aimed at assisting Grade 12 female learners in the rural areas,” said Vos, who also has a personal blog – Wees Jy deur Lizaan Vos on Facebook, which is aimed at inspiring people.
“It is hard for a female to try to love herself or accomplish something when she is worried about having basic sanitary products.
“Therefore, I decided to do the sanitary drive to help girls accomplish greatness, as they will be able to attend school. Having the sanity products they need will also boost their self-confidence.”
