THE Covid-19 virus has seen many major events cancelled and has the healthcare system under severe pressure, owing to the sharp increase in infections.

This resulted in the declining of blood donations and blood stocks are not at optimal levels. Therefore the South African National Blood Service and AlgoaFM were determined to find alternatives for the life-saving annual blood donation challenge, known as AlgoaFM Bloodline Day, to continue.

The Bloodline event started on Monday and will continue until tomorrow, to ensure proper social distancing can be maintained at all times. The target for the week will be 1 000 units of blood.

SANBS is appealing to all blood donors to schedule a specific blood donation appointment, in order to keep the process safer for everyone involved. The Covid-19 virus cannot be transferred through blood.
