WHAT a great evening the music quiz was, especially as more than R10 000 was raised in such a fun way!
Members from the Rotary Club of Uitenhage South hosted a first-of-its-kind virtual music quiz in which four international Rotary Clubs also participated. The event was hosted in five different time zones.
“How fantastic is technology that we were able to pull this off so well,” said Rotarian Clive Hassell from the Rotary Club of Uitenhage South.
The Rotary Club of Uitenhage South managed to raise over R10 000 from this event which will be used toward food parcels for the less fortunate.
“Thank you to everyone who participated, assisted in the event and added to the laughs. We are all very much looking forward to the next one,” said Hassel.
According to him, Rotarians paid in their own currency through a PayPal crowd fund account in the United Kingdom, to enter and participate.
“A huge percentage of people in first world countries have PayPal accounts so they just paid into it. The money has already been transferred into the Rotary Club account. Many in UK paid much more than the entry fee and the participants from Texas paid $130 (R2 250),” said Hassel.
The music quiz was held on Zoom with screenshared movie clips which contained the questions for each round.
“We ran a concerted Facebook advertising campaign with a new advert every couple of days and we used the Rotary International network.
“At the end we had participants from Texas and Maine in the USA, Belgium, Ireland, Scotland, England and of course a few from South Africa,” said Hassel.
The Rotary Club of Uitenhage South will be handing out packs of fortified soup mix and each entry into the competition will sustain a family of four for a week.
