THE initiative launched by the Uitenhage Lions Club to raise funds through its Roadhouse Friday with the aim to compile food parcels for the needy in the Uitenhage and Despatch areas, has been a huge success.

“Thank you to the public for your support. Through funds raised with our Roadhouse Friday initiative, we were able to contribute towards the provision of food and other essentials for 122 families in the Uitenhage and Despatch area,” said Lions president Raynard McLaren.

The co-ordinator for the feeding project, Marieta Swanepoel from Helpende Hand, says that the number of families assisted have steadily increased since April 2020.

“We now have social workers and other volunteers identifying and addressing needs in Uitenhage and Despatch. This ensures that the assistance is focused on where it is needed most,” explained Swanepoel.

The next Roadhouse Friday will be held tomorrow afternoon as well on Friday, September 4, from the parking area behind Wuthering Heights in Uitenhage. The public is asked to pre-order to avoid disappointment.
