GARDENS Rugby and Football Club held a clean-up project at the Derrick Ferreira Stadium on Heritage Day as part of their projects to bring along positive change in its community.
Clarence Wood, Gardens RFC public relations officer said, “Owing to lockdown there was a period of sports inactivity and as a result of this the facility got broken into and vandalised and it was left in a dire state.
“Gardens in conjunction with its supporters, the surrounding community as well as the Nelson Mandela Bay municipality, took the initiative to clean-up the field and restore it to its former glory.”
Among the Gardens supporters was Kay-leigh Klopper (15), who recently competed in the Junior Miss South Africa competition where she was crowned first princess for the Face of Africa competition. Kay-leigh, a grade 10 learner at Riebeek College Girls’ High School, previously was crowned Miss Junior Teen Eastern Cape Ambassador.
She is a modelling student at Sophisticate Models under the wing of Gail Brown.
