A group of local cyclists will on Saturday embark on a cycling trip from Uitenhage to Jeffreys Bay and back, in memory of those who passed-on owing to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Uitenhage and KwaNobuhle have – now with the second wave of infections spiking – been identified as two of the Eastern Cape’s hot spots. This is mainly as residents are ignorant, not adhering to regulations and Covid-19 protocol.

The Cyclone Riders will start their challenge at 06:30 from Engen Cuyler Service Centre. The public are invited to, prior to the start, at 06:00 join the cyclists for a short prayer ceremony and to light candles not only in memory of the deceased, but also to commemorate those who survived Covid-19. The Cyclone Riders’ challenge also serves as a fundraiser for the Catholic Order of the Knights of Da Gama charity organisation, who support those in dire need in the community. They have to date donated R15 000 to Marian Villa, a home which takes care of pregnant young women to persuade them to not abort their unborn babies.
