SHARON Jessop, an endurance athlete from Port Elizabeth set out on the 22 September 2020, World Rhino Day on a Guinness World Record run attempt to run 101 consecutive half marathon distances.
The current Guinness World Record is 75 consecutive half marathons and on Sunday, Sharon completed her 76th consecutive half marathon to be the unofficial Guinness World Record Holder.
Sharon is adamant to finish her 101 consecutive half marathon on December 31 when the final run will take place from Kragga Kamma Game Park.
Her aim with this Guinness World Record run is to raise massive awareness and funds for the One Land Love It foundation for rhino conservation and anti-poaching and also for the Community Chest of the Eastern Cape. Donations can be made via the Back-A-Buddy Campaign.
Wayne Bolton, the co-founder and chairman of the One Land Love It foundation said, “What an incredible achievement by Sharon!
“It is more than the incredible physical achievement of breaking a Guinness World Record – it’s the way she has done it.
“It’s no secret that 2020 has been a tough one.
“All the more difficult for someone to rise out of their own circumstances, and selflessly act for others. It is altruism at its best.
“It’s acting for the helpless, in this case our rhino, the incessant poaching of which has now resumed post-lockdown.”
Bolton said what stands out of Sharon is her positive attitude, her consistent smile irrespective of how she feels, and her passion to make a difference.
“Most of us care for the world around us; not many move from caring to doing.
“Sharon is a wonderful example and inspiration to us all as she demonstrates the breathtaking strength of the human spirit, even in adversity.”
